Jain General Store

You can find us right in the Sojat Road Main Market. Jain General Store has everything from notebooks to washing powder. It’s a lot of work keeping track of all the small items on the shelves. We open up early because the school kids come by for pens and snacks before their classes start. The main market is usually dusty and the trucks passing through to the highway don't help much. We have a large wooden counter that has been here since my father's time. It’s scratched and old but it does the job. We don't really have a staff, just a couple of us from the family taking turns. Sometimes we forget to restock certain things and have to tell people to come back tomorrow. That’s just how we run things here on Sojat Road. The evening is our busiest time when the ladies come out to buy things for dinner. It gets a bit cramped in here and we have to shuffle around each other. We don't use any fancy barcodes or scanners. It’s all very traditional and simple. The neighborhood has changed a lot over the years but the store stays pretty much the same. We like the routine of it and knowing everyone who walks through the door. It feels like home even when it’s chaotic.
