Ambika Provision Stores

Running Ambika Provision Stores at the Falna Main Chouraha means dealing with a lot of noise all day long. Since we are right at the main crossroads, there are always buses and cars honking right outside the front step. It gets very dusty because of all the traffic but that is just how it is in this part of town. I spend a lot of my time stacking tins of ghee and making sure the biscuit packets are not getting crushed on the bottom shelves. People stopping for a quick minute while they travel often pop in to grab some water or a small snack. The shop is not very big but we try to keep a bit of everything like washing powder and different types of rice. I usually have a cup of tea standing up because there isn't much time to sit down when the crowd from the Chouraha starts coming in. The floor is made of old stone and it stays cool even when the sun is beating down on the street outside. I don't really use a computer for anything so I just write the prices on the bags with a marker pen. It is a bit chaotic sometimes especially on market days when the farmers come into Falna. We just keep the doors open and keep moving the stock around to make space for whatever arrives next.
