Vinoth Engineering Works

Our shop is at No 3/279 A in Iyyanar Nagar. Vedasandur is a quiet enough place but we stay pretty busy with the engineering work we have to do. We handle a lot of different jobs here. It’s mostly stuff for the farmers and local shop owners. Welding, cutting, fixing up iron gates, things like that. The shop isn't big at all. It gets very hot in the afternoons, especially with the torches going and the sun hitting the roof. We have a small fan but it doesn't do much more than move the hot air around. I grew up around tools so this felt like a natural thing to do with my life. We don't have a big front office or anything. Just a desk with a lot of papers and some old tools lying around. People come in and we talk about what needs doing. I try to be fair with the timing, but sometimes things take longer if the power goes out. That happens sometimes here and we can't do much about it. We just sit outside and wait for it to come back. Most of our customers are locals who we’ve known for a long time. They know where we are tucked away. We don't change much. The floor is concrete and always covered in scraps of metal and iron filings. We sweep it at the end of the day, but it’s messy again by ten the next morning. It’s just how an engineering shop is. We do the work and try to stay out of trouble.
