If you go down Sandai Road in Vedasandur, you will find us right in the St Marys Building. Being on G H Road means we see a lot of people going to the hospital nearby. We get our fruit early in the morning, sometimes when it is still dark outside. The crates arrive smelling like oranges and bananas, and we spend a good hour just stacking them up. Nila Fruits is a small spot, but we try to keep it packed with whatever is in season. My hands are usually stained from handling the produce all day. We have some regulars who come every single day for their bag of apples or grapes. The building itself is old, number 652, and it has that particular smell of stone and age. We do not have fancy lights or displays, just the wooden crates and some old scales that still work fine. Sometimes the fruit isn't perfect, maybe a bruise here or there, but that is nature for you. We do not throw much away. It gets crowded when the market is on, and the noise from the street is constant. I usually sit on a small stool near the front so I can see everyone passing by. It is a lot of standing and moving, but I have been doing this so long I do not think I could do anything else. We just take it one day at a time.
