N. K. Traders

N. K. Traders has been at No 115 on Gandhi Road for quite some time now. The street is always packed with people and rickshaws, especially in the afternoons. We open up the shop around ten in the morning and the first thing we do is sweep the front step. It gets very dusty with all the traffic passing by. Inside, we have shelves piled up with different things we trade. It is not very organized to look at, but we know where every box is. We don't have a computer system that tracks everything, so we use the old ledger books to write down what comes in and what goes out. The ceiling fan makes a clicking noise that we have just gotten used to over the years. We talk to the other shopkeepers nearby about the weather or how the local market is doing. Our regulars know to come directly to the counter and ask for what they need. We don't do any big advertisements or have a fancy website. It is just us here every day, handling the orders and talking to the delivery drivers who struggle to find parking on Gandhi Road. Sometimes we stay late to finish the accounts when it’s quiet and the street noise finally dies down a bit. It is a simple way to earn a living and we just keep at it day after day without much fuss.
