Vasantha Rice Mill

We run Vasantha Rice Mill at 66 Main Road in Vadavannur. It is a simple building right where everyone can see it when they drive into town. The mill has been part of the landscape here for a long time. We deal with rice all day so everything we touch has that dusty feel to it. Vadavannur is a quiet place mostly but the Main Road gets some trucks and buses passing through. We don't have any fancy signage or a website to show off what we do. People just know we are here at number 66 because they see the bags out front. Inside it is very loud when the hullers are running and you have to shout to be heard. We spend a lot of time sweeping the floors but the dust always comes back by noon. It is a tough job and our clothes are always dirty by the time we head home. We don't talk about being the best because we just focus on getting the rice ready. Vasantha Rice Mill is just a local business owned by people who live right here. We open the doors early in the morning and close up when the sun goes down. Sometimes we sit on the steps and talk to the neighbors as they pass by on the road. It is just how things are done here in Vadavannur every single day.
