The River Retreat

We've been here on Palace Road for a while now. It's a quiet spot in Cheruthuruthy. The river is right there, which is why we called it The River Retreat. Most days involve just keeping things running and looking after the place. It's not a fancy corporate setup, just us doing what we do. People come by when they want a bit of peace. We spend a lot of time making sure the rooms are tidy and the grounds aren't too messy. Living in this part of Kerala is slow, and we like it that way. You can hear the water sometimes if it’s quiet enough. The building itself has some history, being near the old palace area. We don't have a big team of managers or anything like that. It's mostly just a few of us who know the area well. If someone needs directions or a bit of help with their bags, we’re around. We try to keep the food simple, the kind of stuff we eat at home. Palace Road gets some traffic, but once you step inside, it's different. We aren't trying to be the biggest place around, just a reliable one for anyone passing through Cheruthuruthy. The weather gets hot, so we keep the fans going. It’s just a regular business run by people who live here and care about the spot. We spend our evenings sitting out front when the work is done, just watching the local buses go by and chatting with neighbors who walk past.
