Star Flour Mills

Star Flour Mills is located on Valiparambu Road in Kunathurmedu, which is just a short walk from the stadium. You can usually hear the sound of the machines long before you get to the door at 14/295. It’s a noisy business, but we’ve grown used to the hum of the grinders over the years. The air inside is almost always a bit white with a fine coating of flour dust. We spend our days taking in grains from people in the neighborhood and processing them. It’s a very practical, hands-on job. There’s a lot of lifting heavy sacks and making sure the machinery is running smoothly. We don't have a front office or a waiting room; it’s just the mill and a small area where we handle the transactions. People from all over the Kunathurmedu area come to us because we’ve been here for such a long time. The building itself is quite old and shows its age, but the equipment inside is what matters. We keep a simple logbook and we know most of our customers by their faces. Sometimes, when the machines are off, it’s surprisingly quiet, and we can look out towards the stadium road and see the world going by. It’s not an easy job, and it’s definitely not a clean one, but it’s what we do. We just keep the mill going and make sure everyone gets their flour back in time for dinner.
