Sindhiya Modern Rice Mill

We've been here in Perungottukavu for a while now. The mill is right there in Kizhakkumuri, near Nemmara. It gets pretty loud when the machines are going full tilt, especially during the harvest months when everyone is bringing in their paddy. You can see the dust dancing in the sunlight coming through the high windows. It’s not a fancy place, just a working mill with concrete floors and piles of gunny bags everywhere. Most of the guys here have been working these machines for years, so they know exactly how the rhythm should sound. If something clicks wrong, someone usually notices it before the day is out. We spend a lot of time just moving bags from one side of the shed to the other. It’s heavy work and your clothes always end up smelling like raw rice and heat by the time the sun goes down. Nemmara is a quiet enough place, but the mill keeps us busy. Sometimes the trucks get backed up on the road waiting to load, and that’s when things get a bit chaotic. We just try to keep the flow going as best we can. There isn't much to say about the building itself, it’s just a big sturdy shed that does what it’s supposed to do. We keep the floor swept, but with this much grain moving through, it’s a never-ending job. It’s just how things are around here every single day. We don't have much of a front office, so most people just find us by the noise of the machines.
