Modern Oil Mills

Modern Oil Mills is out in Kozhkkottiri Post, which you can find via Pattambi. It is a plain, functional mill where we spend our time pressing oil. The building has been here for a long time, and it shows its age in some places. We have these large machines that crush the seeds, and they make a steady thumping sound all day. It’s a bit greasy on the floors sometimes, and the smell of the oil is quite strong. We don’t have an office with air conditioning or fancy furniture. It’s just a place of work. Farmers and local traders come by with their supplies, and we get to work. We have a few people who have been with us for years. They know the machines better than anyone. We don’t do a lot of talking; we just focus on the containers and the quality of what’s coming out of the press. Being out here near Pattambi means we are away from the rush of the big towns. Sometimes the power is a bit spotty, so we have to plan our work around that. It’s a very grounded business. We don't have any big slogans. We just try to keep the mill running and make sure the oil is clean. If you come by, you’ll probably see us covered in a bit of dust, just finishing up a batch. The seasons change but the work at the mill stays mostly the same.
