Ems Memorial Co-Operative Hospital & Reserch Centre

Ems Memorial Co-Operative Hospital & Reserch Centre is situated in Panambi, which is in the Perinthalmanna area of Malappuram district. This is a co-operative hospital, which means it was built and is run by the community here in Kerala. It’s a pretty large place, and we have been here long enough that everyone in the district knows where we are. We have a research centre too, but most of the daily activity is just regular hospital work. The building is surrounded by some trees, which helps a bit with the Kerala heat. Inside, the floors are usually being mopped and there’s a constant stream of people in the corridors. We have a lot of different wards and some very busy doctors who have been with us for years. Being in Panambi means we get a lot of people from the surrounding villages who prefer coming here instead of going all the way to a bigger city. The canteen usually has the smell of fresh tea and snacks, which is where many families wait. It’s a practical, no-nonsense hospital. We don’t have a lot of flashy stuff, just the equipment we need and a lot of staff who work hard. It’s a community-driven place, and we take that seriously, even when the days get long and the patient load is heavy.
