Bismi Bag Works

Bismi Bag Works is tucked away at No. 40/ 1031 on Palli Street. If you walk down the lane, you can usually hear the sound of the heavy-duty sewing machines going. We work on all kinds of bags, from school backpacks with broken zippers to big leather suitcases that need a new handle. The shop is small and stacked high with rolls of canvas, leather scraps, and different colors of thread. There isn't much space to move around once we have a few big projects on the floor. We are just a few people who have been sewing for years. We learned the trade from our elders and just kept it going. Sometimes people bring in bags that are so torn up they should probably throw them away, but they have memories attached, so we try our best to patch them up. Our fingers have plenty of calluses from pulling needles through thick material. The light isn't great in the back of the shop, so we do the fine stitching near the front door. We don't have a big sign, just the name painted on the wall. Customers are mostly locals who know us by name. We don't do anything fancy, just solid stitching that holds up. It’s a busy life on Palli Street with people constantly stopping by to ask for a quick fix on a strap or a buckle. We just keep sewing until the sun goes down and then we lock up.
