Over here in Purathur, Aisha Rice Mill has been running for quite some time. Triprangode is where we call home. The main thing we do is process the rice that people bring in from their fields or the market. It's a loud place, honestly. You have to shout a bit to be heard over the huller. We start early, usually when the sun is just coming up, to get a head start on the big loads. The smell of raw rice is everywhere here. It's a heavy smell, kind of earthy. We have big sacks stacked up against the walls. Sometimes we have to move them around to make space, which is a real workout. We aren't a big industrial factory, just a local mill for the local folks. If the power goes out, we just sit and wait, maybe have some tea until it comes back on. That happens sometimes in this part of town. The machinery needs greasing every now and then, and we do that ourselves. My clothes always end up smelling like the mill at the end of the day. It’s not a clean job, but it’s important for the kitchen tables around here. We don't have a website or anything like that. People just know where we are on the road. We just keep our heads down and do the work. It’s a simple business, really. We just want to make sure the rice is done right for everyone.
