We are located up in the hills at Baramangwa Busty. It is quite a drive to get up here. Our spot is at Plot No.364, right where Sonam Tshering Lepcha lives. This part of the region, near Takling and Rongli, is mostly steep land. Farming here is different than in the plains. You have to work with the slope of the mountain. We get together to talk about what grows best in this altitude. It is a quiet life for the most part. The air is cold in the mornings. We mostly focus on what the local families are planting. It’s a lot of manual labor. There aren't many big machines that can work on these hillsides. We started this group because we wanted a way to bring our stuff to the markets together. It makes more sense than everyone going on their own. The roads can be tricky during the monsoon, so we have to plan ahead. Sometimes the mist gets so thick you can't see the next terrace. We are just local people trying to keep the mountain agriculture going. It is what our fathers did. We have some meetings at the house to figure out the transport and the supplies. It is a practical way of living. We don't have a big corporate office, just the space we use for the work. Most of us have been working these plots since we were kids. It is what we know best and we just keep at it every day.
