S R S Bricks

Out here in Chittor, near the Mangalapatti post office, we spend our days out in the sun. Making bricks is what we know. It is a simple process that we have been doing for years, but it takes a lot of patience. The soil here is good for it, which is why we are settled in this spot. We have a group of workers who live nearby, and we all start as soon as the light is good. It is quiet most of the time, just the sound of the shovels and the water. We do not have a website or any of that stuff. If someone needs bricks for a house in the village, they just come and find us. We have piles of them drying out in the open air. Sometimes we worry about the rain, but that is just part of the life. We are not trying to be some massive factory. We like the scale of what we do. It is manageable. My son helps me with the accounts, though he would rather be out doing the physical work most days. We keep our prices fair because we live here too and know everyone in the area. It is honest work, even if it leaves you tired at the end of the day. We have built a lot of the walls you see around this part of Chittor, and that feels pretty good when we drive past them.
