Khodiyar Kirana Store

Our store is right in the Main Bazar of Limbasi. We are very close to the Post Office and the Bus Stand, so it is a very central place to be. You can see the buses pulling in and out from our front step. It’s a typical kirana shop with bags of rice and lentils stacked up high. We try to keep a bit of everything because people in the village rely on us for their daily cooking. The floor is made of old stone and it’s seen a lot of boots over the years. We open up early in the morning when the first bus arrives and we don’t close until late at night. It can get pretty hot in the summer months because we don’t have air conditioning, just a couple of ceiling fans that hum all day. We know most of the people who come in by their first names. It’s a friendly place, but we’re usually too busy weighing things out to talk for long. The shelves are a bit crowded and sometimes it takes a second to find a specific spice or soap someone is asking for. We don't have a computer system or anything; we just write things down in a big ledger. It’s the way we’ve always done it and it works fine for us. We’re just a local shop trying to keep the pantry staples ready for whoever needs them.
