Jaymalhar Urban Nidhi Limited is located at the post in Dahiphal, which is under the Kallamb taluka. It’s a quiet place for the most part. Our office is just a straightforward room with some sturdy tables and a few cupboards for all the records we have to keep. We don’t have an air conditioner, so we leave the windows open to catch whatever breeze comes through the trees outside. You can usually hear birds or the sound of a tractor passing by. People from the village come in to put away their savings or ask about how things work. We take our time with each person because there is no reason to rush. We usually have some water ready for anyone who walks in from the heat. The floor is tiled but it gets dusty pretty quick with people coming in from the fields. We spend our afternoons going through the books and making sure every rupee is accounted for. It’s not a fancy setup with glass partitions or anything like that. It’s just a place where we sit and work together. Sometimes we stay late to finish the filing if there was a lot of activity during the day. It’s a small operation, just a few of us handling the daily tasks. We don’t do big meetings or anything like that, we just talk across the desks to get things sorted and make sure the entries are right.
