Hindalco Ind. Ltd.,Hirakud Smelter,(Aditya Birla Group)

We've been here at Flat No.-C/9 in the River Side Colony for a while now. Living in Hirakud is different if you aren't used to the heat from the smelter or the way the river looks in the morning. It’s mostly just us working the shifts for Hindalco Ind. Ltd., Hirakud Smelter, (Aditya Birla Group). Most folks in the colony know each other because we all see the same faces every day. It gets pretty loud sometimes with the machines, but you get used to it. The dust is a thing too. Living in Sambalpur district means dealing with the weather, which can be tough in the summer months. We just go about our business. There isn't much to say about the office setup; it’s just a flat where things get handled. People drop by when they need something signed or if there's a problem with the housing. The trees around the colony give some shade, but mostly it's just paved roads and rows of houses. We keep things simple here. No one is trying to impress anyone else. We just make sure the work gets done and the lights stay on. Sometimes the water from the river is cool, which is nice after a long day. It’s a quiet life if you ignore the plant noise. We’ve seen a lot of people come and go from these flats over the years. Most stay for the work and then move on. It’s just how it is in a place like Hirakud. It works for us just fine.
