At Thriveni Earthmovers Pvt Ltd., we are set up in the Joda East Township, at house 2R/63. Being in Keonjhar, we are right in the middle of everything. It’s a company township, so there’s a certain feel to the place, with everyone knowing everyone else’s business. Our office is basically a converted residential space where we keep our files and take our breaks. It’s not a corporate headquarters by any stretch of the imagination. There are usually a few pairs of boots sitting by the door and a lot of dust on the windowsills. Joda is a place that never really sleeps because of the mines, so you hear the heavy engines rumbling at all hours of the night. We spend our days coordinating with the operators and checking on the equipment out in the field. The weather can be a bit of a challenge, with heavy Orissa rains turning the sites into a soup of mud, but we just deal with it. We don't have a lot of rules about how things look, as long as the work is getting done correctly. We eat our lunch together and talk about the machines or whatever else is going on in the township. It’s a simple, hardworking environment where the main goal is just to finish the day’s tasks without any major breakdowns. We aren't here for show; we are here to work and get the ground ready for whatever comes next for the site.
