Down in Jharsuguda, the scale of things is just different. This is the HR office for Vedanta Aluminium Limited, and it’s a busy hub because of the plant nearby. You can feel the industrial energy of the town as soon as you arrive. Our Associate General Manager for HR stays pretty tied up with all the people coming through these doors. We handle everything from hiring new faces to sorting out the daily issues that come up with a workforce this size. The office is functional, meant for handling stacks of resumes and employee records rather than looking pretty. It’s usually got a bit of that Orissa dust on the windows, no matter how much we clean, because that’s just part of being in an industrial belt. People are always waiting in the lobby or walking through the halls to get papers signed. It’s loud, it’s fast-paced, and it can be a bit overwhelming if you aren’t used to the noise of a major operation. We don’t have a lot of time for formalities. Usually, it’s just quick conversations and getting things moved to the next step. The staff here knows the local area well and we try to keep things running as smoothly as possible, though there’s always some challenge or another popping up. It’s honest work in a tough, hardworking town, and we wouldn't have it any other way.
