Gannon Dunkerley & Co Ltd is operating out of Matai village, which is in the Belonia area of Tripura. It’s quite far out if you’re coming from the bigger cities, but it’s where our work has taken us. We have a setup in the village to manage our local contracts. Life moves at a different pace here in the Northeast. We have to deal with the rains and the transport issues that come with being in a remote spot. Our office is just a simple building in the village. There are no neon signs or big billboards. We mainly talk to the locals and hire people from the surrounding villages when we have work. It’s a very grassroots way of doing things. We keep our paperwork in order, but the real work is out on the roads or the construction sites nearby. We don't have a fancy website or a PR team. If you want to know about us, you usually just ask around the village of Matai. People know Gannon Dunkerley because of the projects we’ve handled over the years. It’s a lot of manual labor and coordination with the local authorities. We have our tea breaks under the trees and start work early to beat the heat. It’s a very basic existence, but it’s how we contribute to the development of the region. We just focus on one day at a time and try to stay organized.
