Misl, Jajpur

We operate out of Hatibari, which is near Sukinda in the Jajpur district of Orissa. It is a quiet place compared to the big cities. The office is really just a part of the local landscape. Jyotirmaya Muduli handles things on the ground here. We have been part of this community for a long time. It is the kind of place where everyone knows each other’s names. We do not have a big office building with elevators. It is more of a ground-floor setup where people can just walk up and talk to us. Dealing with things in rural Orissa takes a bit of patience sometimes. The mail takes a while to arrive, and the internet can be spotty when it rains. We just take it as it comes. Our work keeps us busy throughout the year. We do not use any big words to describe what we do. We just help out with whatever is needed and make sure the records are kept straight. Life here moves at its own pace. Most of our visitors are neighbors or people from the nearby villages. We usually have the door open to catch the breeze. It is a simple life and a simple business. We do our jobs, look after the place, and make sure everything is running. It is not fancy, but it is ours. The Sukinda area is known for its mines, but our little corner is more relaxed. We have a few trees outside that provide some good shade during the peak of summer. It is a steady life here.
