Mesco Steel,Jajpur,Orissa

Our group is connected to the Mesco Steel plant out in Jajpur but some of us spend most of our time in Bhubaneswar. It is quite a big change of pace going from the loud industrial area of Jajpur to the city life here in the capital of Orissa. We do a lot of the coordinating and the administrative tasks from the Bhubaneswar side because it is easier to meet people and get things signed off. The plant in Jajpur is where the real work happens with the furnaces and the raw materials coming in. It is a long drive between the two places and sometimes the roads are not in the best shape, especially when the monsoon rains start coming down heavy in the afternoons. We have been part of the Orissa steel scene for a good while now. It is not like those big corporate places you see on TV with glass buildings and fancy suits. We just have a regular spot where we keep track of what is going on at the factory. Most days are just spent on the phone or looking at delivery schedules for the steel loads. People in Jajpur know us well because we have been around so long. It is hard work and the iron dust is everywhere when you are on site but back in Bhubaneswar it is a bit cleaner. We just try to keep things moving so the steel gets where it needs to go.
