Ferro Alloys Corporation

Ferro Alloys Corporation operates out of the Ostapal Chromite Mines in Kaliapani. Anil Kumar Pati is the senior mines manager here, and he spends most of his time dealing with the daily stuff that happens at a mine site. Jajpur is a rugged place, especially out in the mining belt. The dirt is everywhere, and you can’t really keep your boots clean for more than five minutes. It is a long way from the big cities, and life moves a bit differently here. We focus on the chromite extraction and making sure the shifts run on time. It is a lot of heavy machinery and loud noises. You get used to it after a while, I guess. The office at the site is pretty basic, just the essentials to keep the mining operations moving. We don't have time for fancy talk or corporate meetings. It is more about the weather and whether the trucks can get through the mud during the monsoon. Everyone here knows their job. It is hard work, and the heat in Orissa can be something else in May. We stay busy with the day-to-day tasks. There isn’t much to do in Kaliapani besides work, so we focus on that. It is just a group of people making a living in the mines. We take things as they come and try to get the job done right.
