Shri Guru Computerised Wood Carvings

Up here in the Nilgiris, specifically in Conoor 2, things move at a slightly different pace. Shri Guru Computerised Wood Carvings is located at No 30F/2, in a building called Sri Muruga Nivas over in Tenhill. It’s a beautiful area, though we spend most of our time inside with the machines. We use computerized tools to get the carvings done, which is a bit different from the old-fashioned hand way, but it lets us do things more precisely. The smell of sawdust is pretty much a constant in the shop. We’ve been at this location for a bit, and it works well for us. It can get quite chilly during the monsoon or winter months, so we usually have some tea going. The shop isn't huge, but we have enough room for the wood stock and the carving equipment. People from around Tenhill often walk by and peek in. We do all sorts of patterns and designs on wood pieces. It’s interesting to see how a plain piece of timber turns into something detailed after it’s been through the machine. We don’t have any fancy sales staff. It’s just the people who know how to run the equipment and handle the wood. Sometimes the power goes out, which is just part of living in the hills, but we just pick up where we left off once it's back. It is a quiet life, but we like it.
