Being right on the Omalur By Pass Road means there is never a quiet moment. The sound of trucks rushing past is basically the soundtrack to our day. We are focused on dhall, so the air usually has that dusty, earthy smell of pulses being moved around. It’s a big operation with heavy sacks piled up on pallets everywhere you look. The floors are concrete and usually have a thin layer of dust on them no matter how often we sweep. We have a lot of people moving around, some loading trucks and others checking the quality of the grains. It’s hard work and it gets dusty, especially when the wind blows in from the road. The sun beats down on the roof, making it pretty hot inside during the summer months. We drink a lot of water and take breaks in the shade when we can. There isn't anything fancy about the setup. It’s just a functional industrial space meant for moving product. The machinery hums in the background, and we all have to talk a bit louder to be heard. Most of the guys have been here for years and they know the rhythm of the place. We start early when the air is still cool and keep going until the last truck is loaded for the day. It’s just honest, gritty work out here by the bypass, and we like it that way.
