Anand & Company is right here on 21, Arisipalayam Main Road in Omalur. We’ve been sitting in this spot for a long time now. The street gets quite dusty when the buses go past, but we keep the doors open mostly because it’s better than the stale air inside. It’s a simple setup with high ceilings and some old wooden counters that have seen better days. Usually, the mornings are the busiest time for us. People from around the neighborhood stop in before they head to work. We don’t have any fancy displays or bright flashing lights outside to grab attention. It’s just the name painted above the door and us inside waiting to help whoever walks in. Sometimes the power goes out in the afternoons, so we just sit on the stools and wait for it to come back while listening to the birds. We know most of the people who come here by their first names. They don’t expect anything special, just honest talk and getting what they came for. We keep things organized in our own way, even if it looks a bit messy to someone from a big city. The floor is grey stone and stays cool even when the sun is beating down on the road outside. If someone needs something we don't have, we try to get it by next week. It’s not a fast-paced place, but it works for us and for the people in Omalur who have been coming here for years.
