Mondal Carpet

You will find Mondal Carpet at No. 7/ 4 Chokattaansalai in Nungangakkan. It is a place that feels a bit like a maze because of all the rugs and carpets we have stacked up. We don’t have a big fancy storefront with bright lights. Most of our stock is kept in piles on the floor or rolled up against the walls. The building itself is older and has that specific smell of wool and old textiles. We spend a lot of our day just unrolling things for people to see and then rolling them back up again. It is heavy work and we usually end up with dusty clothes by the end of the shift. The street outside is narrow, so it’s always a bit of a struggle when a delivery truck arrives. We’ve been in Nungangakkan for a long time and the locals know where to find us. We don’t spend money on marketing or polished brochures. We just show what we have in the shop. There is a small desk in the corner where we keep our receipts, but it is usually covered in samples. The ceiling fan wobbles a bit, but it keeps the air moving. We just take things one day at a time, helping whoever comes through the door. It is a straightforward business without any bells and whistles. We aren't trying to be the biggest shop around; we just like what we do and keep the piles organized as best as we can.
