Ganesh Food Packages is basically a big room full of machines and rolls of plastic and paper. We spend most of our time here making sure the food stays fresh in whatever we’re making that day. It gets noisy when everything is running at once, so you have to shout a bit to be heard. The floor is usually covered in little scraps of trim that we sweep up at the end of the shift. We’ve got stacks of different sizes of bags and containers piled up near the loading dock. It’s not a fancy place, just a workspace where we get things done. Sometimes the orders are small and sometimes they’re huge, but we just take them as they come. The lights hum a little bit and there’s always a faint smell of heated plastic in the air. We keep a small kettle in the corner for breaks because the days can feel pretty long. It’s a lot of repetitive work, watching the machines and checking that the seals are tight on the bags. We don’t really have a big staff, just a few local guys who know how the equipment works. When a truck pulls up, we all jump in to help load it up so it can get moving. It’s just how we do things here, keeping busy and making sure the boxes are ready to go. We stay focused on the work and try not to get too distracted by the noise.
