Empowerus Foundation

You can find Empowerus Foundation over on Tiljala Road at 4/K. Tiljala is a crowded, lively part of Kolkata, and our office sits right in the middle of all that activity. We aren't tucked away in some quiet business park. We are right on the street where everything happens. The building is a bit cramped sometimes, but we make it work. We spend our time trying to figure out how to help the people living right here in our neighborhood. It’s mostly just a few of us sitting around a couple of desks, making phone calls and organizing things. We don't have a lot of polished materials or a big PR team. We just do the work. The traffic on Tiljala Road can be pretty loud, but you get used to it after a while. It’s part of the local charm. We started this foundation because we wanted to be useful. There isn't much more to it than that. We take things one day at a time. If someone knocks on the door, we stop what we are doing and listen. It’s a very local operation. We don’t pretend to be something we aren't. We are just people from the area trying to make things a little bit better for our neighbors in Kolkata. Sometimes we stay late when there’s a lot to do, and the street outside is still just as noisy as it was at noon. We usually have some snacks from the local shops while we finish up our paperwork.
