Shankar Furniutre House is located at 365/1 in the Furniture Market at Mangol Pur Khurd. If you’ve ever visited this market, you know it’s a bit of a maze with shops everywhere you look. We’re right in the middle of all that action. Every morning starts with us moving some of the sofas and chairs out onto the front so people walking by can see them. It’s a lot of heavy lifting, but it’s just part of the routine. The market gets incredibly crowded, especially on the weekends, so it’s usually a bit of a scramble to help everyone who walks in. We aren't fancy people. We wear our work clothes, and we usually have a bit of polish or sawdust on us. Most of the stuff we sell is meant for regular homes, things that are sturdy and look nice without costing a fortune. We don't have a script for talking to customers; we just tell them what we know about the wood or the fabric. Sometimes we have to run over to a neighbor’s shop to borrow a tool or get some change, and they do the same with us. It’s that kind of atmosphere. The traffic in Mangol Pur can be a nightmare, so getting deliveries in and out takes some real planning. We just keep our heads down, do the work, and try to make sure every customer leaves happy with what they bought.
