If you walk through the lanes of Ranibagh near Pitam Pura, you might eventually find Wz-968. That is where we spend our days at Saraswati Candle Makers. The first thing you notice when you step inside is the smell of wax. It’s everywhere—in our clothes, on the floor, and even on the door handles. It’s a messy job, but it’s what we do. We have these big old vats where the wax melts down, and the heat can get pretty intense, especially during the summer months when the air feels thick. The floor is always a bit slippery, no matter how much we sweep it. We don’t have fancy machines; it’s mostly just us working with our hands, pouring and setting things. The shelves are lined with molds of all shapes and sizes, many of them looking a bit worn out from years of use. It’s not a quiet place because there’s always the sound of metal clinking or someone moving heavy crates around. Our neighbors in Pitam Pura often stop by just to say hello or see what we are working on today. It’s a local operation, through and through. We don’t have a website or a marketing team; we just have our workspace and the daily routine of making sure the batches are done on time. It’s honest work that keeps us busy from morning until late evening. We have an old calendar on the wall that hasn't been changed in months.
