I've been coming to this spot in the Usha Kiran Bldg for quite some time now. G-1 is right there on the ground floor which makes it easier for moving those heavy paint drums around. Azadpur is always such a busy area with all the noise from the traffic and the cinema nearby. You can usually hear the sounds from Akash Cinema if you stand outside the commercial complex long enough. Inside the shop, things are a bit cramped because we have so many different cans stacked up. People from the neighborhood stop in mostly when they're fixing up their houses or just need a small tin for a gate. It gets pretty dusty out there on the main road so we’re constantly wiping down the counters. It’s just how it is in this part of town. Sometimes the light in the building isn't great, so we take the shade cards out to the entrance to see the actual color in the sun. We don't have a big fancy showroom or anything like that. It’s mostly just shelves and a small desk where I sit. My hands usually have some bit of dried paint on them by midday. It’s a messy job but someone has to do it. We open up early and stay until the market starts to quiet down in the evening. There's a certain routine to it that I’ve gotten used to over the years.
