Fastners Industries

Up in Sector 1 of Rohini, you can find us at Fastners Industries. It is not a huge place, just a decent-sized unit where we keep all the bins of nuts and bolts. It gets pretty loud in here when the machines are running, so we usually have to shout a bit to hear each other. We’ve been in this part of Rohini for a good while now. Every morning, I open up the shutters and see the same street vendors setting up their carts. Dealing with fasteners is mostly about keeping track of thousands of tiny pieces. If one bin gets mixed up, it’s a real headache to sort it all out again. We spend a lot of time just counting things and putting them into bags. It’s not the most exciting job in the world, but it’s what we do. People come in looking for specific sizes, and sometimes they don't even know what they need, so they just bring an old rusty bolt for us to match. We try to help them find the right one so they can get back to whatever they were fixing. The air is always a bit metallic smelling, which you get used to after a few days. We keep a small kettle in the back for tea because that’s the only way to get through the long afternoons. It's just us here, working through the piles of orders and making sure the inventory isn't getting too low. The lights flicker sometimes, but we get by.
