If you ever head down to Sanjay Gandhi Tpt Nagar, you’ll find us at Cw-544. It’s a huge place, full of trucks and transporters from all over the country. Being in the crane business here means you’re always dealing with heavy loads and a lot of dust. The yard gets quite messy, especially when it rains and the ground turns into a bit of a mud pit. We spend a lot of our time checking the oil levels and making sure the hooks are secure. It’s not a job for someone who likes to keep their clothes clean. I spend most of my day on the phone or talking to drivers who are trying to squeeze their rigs into tight spots. Daman Cranes isn't some big fancy company with a lobby. We’ve got a small room with a desk and a few old files, and that’s about it. Most of the action happens outside. The transport nagar is a world of its own, really. There’s a tea stall just a few steps away where we get our morning chai, and that’s usually where the gossip about the local traffic starts. Sometimes the work is slow and we just wait around, and other times it’s so busy we barely have time to eat lunch. It’s just how things go in this line of work. We’ve been at this spot for years and don't plan on moving. It is just basic work but someone has to do it.
