You can find us at House Number 139 in Pocket B 5, right in Sector 4 here in Delhi. Our society focuses on the handloom sector, which most people know as hathkargha. It’s a quiet enough spot in the sector, though the street gets lively in the evenings. We spend our days dealing with weavers and the various textiles they produce by hand. It’s a lot of coordination between different states to make sure the traditional methods don't get lost in the shuffle of modern factories. The office is basically a few rooms filled with samples of cloth and a lot of ledgers. We don't have a big marketing team or anything like that. Instead, it’s just a handful of us making sure the paperwork for the artisans is in order. Sometimes we have visitors coming in to look at the work or ask about how they can get involved with the society. We try to keep things organized, but with so many different handloom groups to keep track of, it can get a bit cluttered. The fan hums in the corner and we drink a lot of tea while discussing yarn prices and exhibition dates. It’s honest work that doesn’t need a lot of shine. We’ve been in this part of Delhi for quite some time now, and the neighbors know us as the people who deal with all the colorful fabrics and threads. We just hope to keep the heritage alive for the next generation.
