Maggies is just a small house, Number 278, on Holiday Street in Gaura Vaddo. If you walk down towards the beach in Calangute, you’ll probably pass us. It’s a busy street with a lot of shops and motorbikes zooming past all day. We’ve been here for a while, and the place has its quirks, like the door that sticks when it’s humid or the way the light hits the porch in the morning. It’s a family-run kind of thing. We don’t have a big lobby or a staff in uniforms. It’s mostly just us making sure the rooms are tidy and the guests have what they need. We have some plants out front that we try to keep alive in the heat. Sometimes people stop by just to ask for directions because they get lost looking for the beach. We don't mind. The neighborhood is noisy, but that's just Calangute for you. We keep things simple. A bed, a fan, and a roof over your head. It’s not a luxury stay, but it’s honest and we’re right in the middle of everything. We spend a lot of time cleaning up the sand that people track in from the street. Life moves pretty fast outside our gate, but inside it’s just us doing the daily chores and talking to whoever happens to be staying with us that week. We also have a small dog that hangs around the yard most days.
