Lalman Milk Bar & Sweet Shop

Lalman Milk Bar & Sweet Shop is tucked away in Durgapuri Gali no 5, DURGA PUR A 287. This lane is quite narrow and you can barely fit a rickshaw through it sometimes. Being a milk bar means our day starts when the milk cans arrive on a cart before dawn. The sound of the metal cans hitting the ground is like an alarm clock for the whole street. We boil the milk in a very large vat in the back room and the steam makes the air very heavy. We use the fresh milk to make curd and different types of sweets every day. My wife sits at the front desk and handles the customers while I manage the production in the back. We have a lot of people who come by with their own stainless steel jugs to buy milk for their families. The shop is not very fancy and the paint on the door is starting to peel off a bit. We have a small television in the corner that we keep on for the news. Kids from the street often come in to buy a single piece of candy. We have lived in the rooms above the shop for a long time, so work and home are the same place for us. It is a noisy, busy life but we are used to it. We just try to keep things clean and honest.
