Darwesh General Store

It’s a pretty lively spot to be at B-12 Bhajanpura. Darwesh General Store is a small place, but we try to keep it full of things people actually need. Every morning starts with the milk delivery, which usually happens before the sun is even up. I spend a lot of time just moving crates and making sure the fridge is stocked. We have glass jars filled with candies and local snacks sitting right on the front counter for the kids. The shelves are mostly filled with daily essentials like soap, lentils, and cooking oil. It’s a lot of physical work, lifting heavy bags of flour and stacking boxes of matches. The fan in the ceiling makes a bit of a clicking sound, but we’ve just gotten used to it over the years. We know most of the people who walk through the door by their names. It’s a close-knit area here in Bhajanpura. If someone is short a few rupees, we usually just let it go until the next time they come in. Trust is a big part of how we do things. The street outside can get quite narrow and busy with rickshaws and delivery scooters. Sometimes it’s a bit of a mess, but that’s just life in this part of town. We don’t have any fancy signs or big marketing budgets. We just open the doors every morning and wait for our neighbors to stop by for their groceries. It is just a normal daily routine.
