It’s usually pretty crowded here around Gali Shahtaraaj. If you’ve ever walked through Ajmeri Gate, you know how these narrow lanes get during the middle of the day. S.V. Tools Co. is right at 4428, and most mornings start with us opening the shutters and trying to organize the shelves before the first person walks in. We deal with tools, mostly small hardware stuff that people need for their shops or homes. There’s a lot of dust from the street, and sometimes the noise from the traffic outside makes it hard to hear what someone is asking for across the counter. We’ve been at this spot for a while now. The walls are a bit stained and there are stacks of metal parts everywhere, but it works for us. Usually, one of us is busy looking through a catalog while someone else helps carry a heavy bag to a rickshaw outside. It’s not a fancy place by any means. Just a shop where we sell wrenches, hammers, and bits of metal. The tea guy comes around twice a day, which is the only real break we get. People come in looking for something specific, and half the time we’re digging through drawers to find the right size. It’s loud, it’s a bit messy, and there’s always something to move or stack. That is just how things go down here in the market. We just keep the doors open and get through the list of things to do.
