Our office is right in the thick of things in Tilak Bazar, which is part of the famous Khari Baoli market in Central Delhi. We are located at 139, on the first floor. If you’ve ever been to Khari Baoli, you know it’s the biggest spice market around, so the whole area smells like turmeric, chilies, and cardamom. It’s very crowded and the lanes are so narrow that only carts and scooters can really get through easily. Suresh Tradelink has been operating from this first-floor space for a long time. The building is old, with high ceilings and thick walls that keep the heat out a bit. We have old-fashioned wooden desks and lots of ledgers, though we use computers now too. The stairs are worn down from years of people walking up and down. It’s a very busy environment with people constantly shouting prices and moving sacks of goods. We don’t have a fancy lobby or a receptionist; you just walk in and someone will be there at a desk. We spend our days talking to traders and managing the flow of goods through the market. It’s chaotic and loud, but there’s a real sense of history and community here. We are just one of the many small businesses that make this market work. It’s not a polished corporate office, but it’s where the real trade happens, and we are happy to be part of it.
