It’s loud, it’s dusty, and there are people everywhere. Our shop is old, with high ceilings and walls that have seen a lot of years. We deal with supari and other things, and the smell of spices is always in the air. We have heavy sacks piled up near the entrance, and there is barely enough room for two people to walk past each other in the aisles. Supari Wala & Co. has been in this spot for a long time. We don't have a computer on the front counter; we still use big ledgers and pens to keep track of what’s coming in and going out. The fans hum all day, trying to keep the heat away. It’s a busy life. We spend the morning unloading goods and the afternoon talking to customers who have been coming to us for decades.
