Seth Parmeshwari Dass (Mayawala) Mill & Mach. Udyog has been in Chawri Bazar for a long time. Our address is 672-674, right in the heart of one of the busiest markets in Old Delhi. If you’ve been here, you know the streets are narrow and always packed with carts, rickshaws, and people carrying heavy loads. Our shop is full of heavy iron parts, pulleys, and various bits of machinery. It smells like oil and metal, which is how a machine shop should smell. We don't have a fancy display; things are just stacked where they fit. We spend our days talking to mechanics and factory owners who need specific parts that they can't find anywhere else. The ceilings are high, but the space feels small because of all the stock we keep. It’s loud outside with the constant shouting and horns, but inside we just focus on the orders. We use old ledgers for a lot of things because that’s how we’ve always done it. My clothes usually end up with a bit of grease on them by lunchtime. There’s a certain rhythm to Chawri Bazar that you get used to after a while. We aren't interested in being modern or polished. We just provide the parts that keep other machines running. It’s honest work, even if it’s a bit dirty and the stairs are steep. We know where every bolt is kept in this place.
