Savitri Jewellers

If you walk through the Main Bazar in the Old Subzi Mandi area, you’ll find us in the Kakwan Building. Savitri Jewellers is a small shop, and it’s usually quite crowded because the market itself is so busy. There’s always the sound of people shouting and motorbikes squeezing through the narrow lanes. We’ve been sitting behind these counters for a long time. It’s a family-run kind of thing. We have the usual glass cases filled with gold and silver. It’s not like those big fancy malls where everything is polished and quiet. Here, it’s loud and real. People come in to buy something for a wedding or maybe just to fix a broken chain. We know many of our customers by name because their families have been coming to us for years. Sometimes the power goes out, and we have to use the old hand fans while we wait for the generator. It gets dusty because of the market outside, so we are always wiping down the glass. We don't have any big sales pitches. We just show what we have and tell people the price based on the daily rate. It’s a simple way of doing business. Sometimes we sit and have tea with customers while they decide. We don’t rush anyone. Life in the Subzi Mandi moves at its own pace, and we are just a small part of that daily bustle.
