We’ve been here at shop number 914/19 in Rang Mahal for quite a few years now. It’s right in the middle of the mess of Chandni Chowk, so you can imagine the noise and the people passing by every minute. Mostly we deal with auto parts and supplies that people need for their cars or bikes. It is not a very big space, but we have managed to pack it floor to ceiling with boxes and spare components. Some days it is so crowded in the lane that you can barely walk, let alone move heavy crates. We open up early enough and stay until the sun goes down. My brother and I run the place usually. There is always a layer of dust on the shelves no matter how much we clean, but that is just part of being in this market. We know the regular mechanics who come by for specific bolts or filters. They usually want a discount, and we argue a bit, then they buy it anyway. It’s just how things go. We don’t have a fancy website or anything. If someone needs something for their engine or a light bulb for their dashboard, they just walk in. Sometimes we sit outside on plastic chairs when the shop gets too stuffy. The fan inside makes a lot of noise but doesn't do much when it’s forty degrees out. We’re just here doing our thing every day.
