Being located at 1689, Dariba Kalan means we are right in the thick of things. If you know this part of Delhi, you know how tight the lanes are and how much history is packed into every corner. Our building is old, like most of them around here, and it has its own quirks. We handle distribution so there is always a lot of movement. Boxes coming in from one side and going out the other. The morning starts early before the heat gets too bad. We spend hours looking at manifests and making sure the counts are right. It’s not glamorous work. Sometimes the electricity goes out for a bit and we just sit there waiting or use flashlights to keep working. The chai wallah comes by twice a day and that’s usually when we take a breather. The walls are a bit stained from years of use and the desks have seen better days. We don't really bother with decorating because there is too much work to do. It’s a practical space for practical people. Dealing with the couriers and the narrow streets is the hardest part of the day. You have to know the shortcuts to get anywhere on time. We've been here long enough that we don't really notice the chaos anymore. It’s just how Dariba Kalan operates and we are part of it.
