Running a shop in Chandni Chowk isn't for everyone. You wake up early and try to beat the crowd to Ambey Market, but honestly, the crowd is always there before you. Our place, P A Equipment India, is tucked into 2287/1 and it’s a bit of a squeeze when we get new stock in. There are boxes piled up and the smell of metal and grease is just part of the atmosphere. We spend a lot of time just sorting through parts and making sure everything is where it should be. Sometimes the tea man comes by twice before we even have a chance to sit down for five minutes. It’s not fancy, just a lot of shelves and people asking for specific bolts or machinery parts that they need right away. The light in the back of the shop flickers a little, but we know exactly where every item is kept. Most days are just a blur of talking to regulars and trying to keep the dust off the equipment. You get used to the noise of the market outside, it just becomes background music after a while. We’ve been at this address for a bit now, and while the stairs are steep and the space is tight, it’s home for us. We just keep things moving, one order at a time, and hope the electricity doesn't cut out during the busy afternoon rush. It is a lot of work but we stay busy.
