We are located on the first floor of an old building in Sirkiwalan, right in the heart of the Hauz Qazi market. If you know this area, you know it is one of the most crowded and noisy places you could ever work in. The lanes are narrow and always blocked by rickshaws and people carrying heavy loads of hardware. To get to us, you have to walk up a set of steep, dark stairs that have been worn down over many years. Our space is quite small and every inch is used to store boxes and various trading goods. It is a bit of a squeeze to move around, especially when a shipment arrives and we have to stack things near the entrance. We spend most of our day talking to customers who walk in from the street and checking our stock levels. The ceiling fans are old and make a clicking noise, but they keep the air moving in the cramped room. We don't have a modern showroom or any fancy displays; it is just a practical place for trading. Lunch usually comes in from one of the local food stalls nearby, and the smell of spices often drifts into the shop. We have been part of this market for a long time and we like the familiar faces of the other traders around us. It is a simple, no-nonsense way to run a small business.
