We’ve been sitting here at 1109 Kashmere Gate for quite a long time now. If you know Bara Bazar, you know how it gets with all the crowds and the narrow lanes. Our shop is right in the thick of it. It’s not a fancy place, just a regular office where we handle our agency work every day. Usually, the mornings start with opening up the shutters and checking what needs to be delivered or picked up. There’s always someone shouting outside or a rickshaw blocking the way, but that’s just how things are in this part of Delhi. We have stacks of files and things piled up on the shelves because space is always tight here. The fan hums on the ceiling and we drink a lot of tea while we talk to people who come by. It’s a busy life, mostly dealing with the paperwork and making sure the supplies are moving like they should. We don’t have a big sign or anything flashy. People who need us usually know where to find us in the market. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we just sit there waiting, talking to the neighbors. It’s just us doing the same work we’ve done for years. We try to keep things organized but in Bara Bazar, a little bit of mess is normal. We just keep our heads down and get the work finished before heading home in the evening traffic.
