If you walk into Chawri Bazar, you know how tight the lanes can get. Our shop, Magan Lal & Sons, is tucked away at 2369, Chhatta Shahji. It is an old part of the city, and the walls here have seen decades of history. The space is small and cramped, filled with stacks of items reaching up to the ceiling. You have to watch your step because there is barely enough room for two people to pass in the narrow aisles. We have been at this address for a long time, and the neighbors are all like family. The air in Chhatta Shahji always smells like a mix of old paper, tea, and whatever the street vendors are cooking nearby. We don't have a big sign or any bright lights to attract people. Most folks who come to 2369 already know us or were told by someone else where to find us. It gets very hot in the summers, and the fans just move the warm air around, but we are used to it. Magan Lal & Sons isn't about looking modern. It is about the daily routine of opening the shutters, checking the stock, and talking to the regulars. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we just sit in the shadows until it comes back. It is a slow, steady kind of life here in the heart of the market. We just keep doing what we've always done.
